Like the section on talking to dead friends and relatives, having your patient talk to that which the subject deems as their higher power, albeit God, Jesus, Allah, Buddha, or an Extended Self (as I have heard from atheists), the outcome of such experiences can be extraordinary. The key to this is based upon equally upon the suggestibility of the subject and the belief structure that the patient uses for this personal relationship from within. In Christianity, for example, the faith of a person in Jesus is deemed as to having the ability to heal, for it is one's faith that Jesus can heal them which will heal them. Most people desparately need some form of direct connection to their higher power. In this suggestion, they are with this deity in a room, bestowing physical contact and warmth, listening to their direction, and leaving the experience changed forever.
In the mean time, all my suggestion was, "You find yourself in a room with that source of higher power to whom you entrust your love and beliefs. As you go up to this power, you may touch, hug, and talk to the source. Please tell me when you are finished."
Usually, these encounters last about a minute or two, in real time, but the stories that come out are fascinating. In all occurrences, the person renewed their personal beliefs in their motivating force, and this was deeply personal, which is how I treated it.
